“Set Fire To Your Hair” Dumb Ways To Die Amigurumi
Last year while visiting my extended family, my 3 year old cousin (and his mom) introduced us to Tangerine Kitty’s Dumb Ways To Die. My sisters loved it and listened to it a LOT. After watching it for the twentieth time, I realized that the characters would make awesome crocheted amigurumi figures.
I decided to start at the beginning with “Set Fire To Your Hair”, (apparently his name is Numpty). Eventually I hope to make all of the characters.
Since these use small amounts of yarn, they are perfect for using up scrap yarn. They also work up really quickly.
You will need:
- blue yarn
- small amount of orange yarn (I used Vanna’s Choice in Terracotta)
- about 18 inches of black yarn
- stuffing
- a C/2.75mm crochet hook
- scissors
- yarn needle

Rnd 11: ch 1, *sc, sc2tog*, repeat from *to* around, join (12 sts)
Stuff the body firmly.
Rnd 12: ch 1, sc2tog around, join (6 sts)
Fasten off and sew up hole.
Arms (x2):
Ch 13,
in BLO, sl-st across length of chain.
Fasten off & sew to Rnd 6 of Body
Repeat for other arm
Legs (x2):
Repeat Arm pattern.
Fasten off & sew to Rnd 10 of Body.
Repeat for 2nd leg
Hair:
Cut 6 strands of orange yarn that are each about 4 ½ inches long. Hook each strand between Rnds 1 & 2. Manually un-ply each strand of yarn to create a big flame. Fluff hair as desired and give the hair a trim.
Face:
With black yarn, embroider eyes using satin stitch between Rnds 5-6. Embroider 2nd eye 3 sts away from first eye.
Use satin stitch to create a mouth.
