Peppermint Facial Rounds
I rarely do holiday themed projects, but this year I thought I’d make an exception. After making scads of my 1-2-3 Facial Rounds for orders, I wanted to give the otherwise solid colored face rounds some holiday flair. The red and white yarns I already had in my stash put me in mind of peppermints and so an idea was formed.
I love it when a design works up just like I’ve envisioned it, and this was one of those such times.

Add this pattern to your Ravelry queue
- Medium weight 100% Cotton yarn in 2 different colors (I used Peaches & Creme in White and Red.)
- H/5.00 mm crochet hook (I’m using my ergonomic Boye crochet hook)
- Tapestry needle
To achieve the swirled look, you will have two sets of stitches active at the same time. It sounds confusing and it does take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it’s quite easy (and addictive).
This pattern is worked in a continuous spiral without joining. When you have finished with one of the colors, you will make your working loop bigger and remove the hook to work on the next color set.
Finished size – 2.5 inches in diameter.
Instructions:
With color #1, make a magic ring
Rnd 1: (still with color #1) *ch 1, make 2 single crochet into ring followed by 2 half-double crochet and 2 double crochet*. Join color #2 and repeat from *to*. You should now have 12 stitches in your ring, 6 of color #1 (in my case, white) and 6 of color #2 (red). Pull the ring closed.
Rnd 2: with color #2, *2 dc in each of the next 6 stitches*, switch back to color #1 and repeat from *to*. You should now have 24 stitches in total; 12 of color #1 and 12 of color #2.
Rnd 3: With color #1, *dc, 2 dc in next stitch* repeat from *to* 5 more times, switch to color #2 and repeat from *to* also five more times. Still with color #2, half double crochet into the next stitch followed by a single crochet in the subsequent stitch. Join with a slip stitch and fasten off color #2. Go back to color #1 and half double crochet into the next stitch followed by a single crochet in the subsequent stitch. Join with a slip stitch and fasten off color #1.
Weave in the two ends to complete.
Repeat to make as many rounds as you want! I typically make about 5 per set. These would be a great thing to include in a self care / spa package.
Here I’ve kept with the mint theme and paired a package of the rounds with a Spearmint scented shea butter soap and a 4 oz container of Sweet Mint scented Shea Body Cream by Hatchie River Soapworks.
