Special stitches:

Waistcoat stitch

The bodice for this dress uses waistcoat stitch to give it a knit look. In this stitch you work into the center of the stitch as opposed to the top of the stitch. Moogly has a great tutorial with both right and left handed versions available for free HERE.

Surface slip-stitch

This technique is used to create the contrast belt. Dedri from Look At What I Made has a step-by-step photo tutorial available HERE.

Bodice:

ch 28, join with sl-st to first chain.

Rnd 1: ch 1, sc in each ch around, join to first sc (28 sts).

Rnd 2: ch 1, waistcoat st in each st around, join to first st (28 sts).

Rnd 3: ch 1, waistcoat st in next 4 sts, *ch 10 & skip 6 sts*, waistcoat st in next 8 sts, repeat from *to*, waistcoat in last 4 sts, join with sl-st to first st.
