My Favorite Crochet Books

Ami Ami Dogs

Ami Ami Dogs 2

Ami Ami Dogs & Ami Ami Dogs 2 by Mitsuki Hoshi.

I have both of these books and have made numerous dogs from both books. They are very adorable and very detailed little dogs. The majority of patterns in the books are for small breeds of dogs (such as Pugs and Chihuahuas).

The first book contains patterns for 12 different breeds of dogs. They are:

  1. Chihuahua
  2. Welsh Corgi
  3. Japanese Shiba
  4. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
  5. Miniature Dachshund
  6. Siberian Husky
  7. Labrador Retriever
  8. Maltese
  9. Miniature Schnauzer
  10. French Bulldog
  11. Beagle
  12. Pug

The book also contains patterns to turn the dogs in to keychain accessories.

The second book contains patterns for:

  1. Chihuahua
  2. Jack Russel Terrier
  3. Toy Poodle
  4. Shih Tzu
  5. Dalmatian
  6. Papillon
  7. Boston Terrier
  8. Bernese Mountain Dog
  9. Hokkaido Dog
  10. Japanese Shiba
  11. Bull Terrier

This book also contains patterns to turn the dogs in to keychain accessories, as  well as turning them in to magnets.

If you had to get just one of the books, I would recommend getting the first one. The second one contains two of the same patterns that were in the first book (the Chihuahua and the Japanese Shiba) and a few of the dogs look the same. You need to know how to read crochet charts, as there are no written directions for the parts.

My Crochet Doll

My Crochet Doll  by Isabelle Kessedjian.

This is my favorite book for dolls! I have made 5 so far . The only problems with the book are:

  • There is no gauge information. This is not a problem for me, as I do not worry about gauge too much. Also there is no finished doll size. I use a G/4.25 mm hook and number 4 yarn and my dolls are about 12-14 inches tall.
  • The book is written in U.K. crochet terms, not U.S. terms.  Again, no problem if you remember that their dc = our sc.
  • This book does not have step-by-step finishing instructions for assembly of the doll, or it’s clothes.

I would say that this book is for intermediate amigurumi crocheters. Nothing about the crocheting part is really hard, you just need to know how to assemble the dolls without step-by-step instructions.

Crochet One Skein Wonders

Crochet One Skein Wonders by Judith Durant & Edie Eckman.

I love this book! It it such a great stash buster for all of those half-used leftover skeins of yarn or skeins that you could never find the right project for. The book is organized by yarn  weights, from thread to bulky. It was from this book that I completed my first project (the dancing poppies mini bolero) when I was 10 years old.

This book has a lot of variety & has something for people of every crochet level.
